Against the Odds: Pitt is an underdog to Virginia Tech in Saturday’s game

As mentioned in the preview, Pitt has a tough test this weekend against Virginia Tech. The Panthers, unsurprisingly, find themselves as a slight underdog to the Hokies.

The line opened with Pitt as 3 12-point underdogs and, depending on where you look, has remained at that number or is at 4 points.

That number isn’t too shocking, really. Given that most consider home field to be worth three points, it’s easy to favor Virginia Tech in this one. The two teams are both 7-3 and Virginia Tech has really come on lately.

Of course that doesn’t mean a Hokies victory is assured here. If the Pitt offense looks sharp as they did last weekend, the Panthers will have a shot. But even if it becomes a defensive struggle, Pitt should be right there in it, too, with excellent play on that side of the ball.

The 16-12 Miami win over Pitt could be a template of what we see this weekend with both defenses having a strong game. But I’m not expecting that and figure that we’ll see more points than that. Those kinds of games, regardless of how good the defenses are, just aren’t seen too often. Plus, Virginia Tech’s offense, especially, has looked solid, too.
