Pitt head coach Jeff Capel and his staff hosted a slew of elite recruits over the weekend, including Gerald Drumgoole, Donovan Johnson, Darius Miles and Ethan Morton, all of whom are considered four-star prospects, according to the 247Sports composite ratings. All four had positive feedback, but only Drumgoole’s recruitment was winding down, as he was the lone member of the 2019 class.
As such, Drumgoole, a 6’6” small forward out of La Lumiere School in La Porte, Indiana, had more to say about his visit than some of the other guests, and he concluded his review with an announcement about Pitt’s standing during the latter stages of his recruitment process.
“I definitely loved the official visit,” Drumgoole told Mike Vukovcan of Pittsburgh Sports Now. “I went there and it definitely felt like home. … I was surprised by how many people knew me already. That was a very cool feeling. It was fans in the Oakland Zoo and all around campus. I enjoyed that and hearing people all around telling me that they wanted me to commit to Pitt.”
“I won’t be taking anymore visits," he added. "And I’ll decide between South Carolina, Pitt and Minnesota."
That last detail signifies a change of plans for Drumgoole, as he previously told Rivals recruiting analyst Corey Evans that he intended to take all five of the official visits at his disposal. At that time, the other schools recruiting him heavily included Georgetown, Illinois, Northwestern and Seton Hall, but it seems they will miss out on the coveted wing.
Perhaps due in part to the change of heart, Evans picked Pitt to land Drumgoole on Sunday, and he has a solid track record of successful predictions. As of Monday, he had correctly predicted 78 out of 87 commitments, including nine of his last 10. And a few of those names — such as Kofi Cockburn, Tyrese Samuel, Qudus Wahab and C.J. Walker — should look familiar to the Pitt faithful.
Drumgoole averaged 19.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists during his junior season at Irondequoit High School in Rochester, New York, prior to transferring to La Lumiere. The talented wing noted that he will announce his decision “in the next couple of days.”
