Today, the Pittsburgh Panthers (5-29, 2-10) will begin play in the Mizzou Tournament. Perhaps it shouldn’t be a surprise that they’ll face the Missouri Tigers at 6pm EST to open play.
They’ll play Missouri again as their second game on Saturday. Pitt will face the Oregon Ducks in their first game on Saturday and also once on Sunday to conclude the tournament. The Panthers will be the away team against the Tigers, while they’ll be the home team in their two games against Oregon. The games against Missouri should be televised on the SEC Network.
Pitt clobbered the North Carolina Tar Heels last Saturday, 14-5, and played a competitive game against the Ohio State Buckeyes until the top of the 9th inning. Perhaps they can muster some of that competitive fire tomorrow before returning to ACC play.
The Tigers are 19-14 while the Ducks are uncharacteristically 13-18. If the Panthers are to beat either of their opponents they’ll need really good pitching performances from sophomore Brittany Knight freshman Abby Edwards. Both have been forced to take larger roles as senior Sarah Dawson hasn’t played since pitching 2.2 innings against the Purdue Boilermakers back on February 8th - the first game of the season.
Of course with freshman left fielder Katlyn Pavlick, sophomore centerfielder Hunter Levesque, and senior short stop Olivia Gray at the top of the order anything is possible. They’ll all be looking to rebound from a hitless outing against Ohio State.
