Against the Odds: Pitt an underdog to Virginia in opener

NCAA Football: Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Pitt football season gets underway this week with a game against Virginia. But oddsmakers have the Panthers as slight underdogs against the Cavaliers, despite the game being played in Pittsburgh.

Pitt actually opened as a one-point favorite but now finds itself as a 2 1/2-point underdog according to many lines.

While I think the Panthers have a decent shot at winning, seeing Virginia favored isn’t a big surprise. They received a good number of votes in the preseason polls and are being picked by some to have a breakout year. Whether or not that actually happens is up in the air. But there’s optimism surrounding the team and the odds, for now, are in their favor.

What do you think of the line?
