Panthers Getting Back to Work

With the first week of classes coming to a close and the Pittsburgh Panthers football team taking the field tomorrow night, there’s a lot going on in Oakland. Not to be left out, the Pitt softball team has kept themselves busy over the last two weeks.

Last Thursday, they announced the addition of another transfer, redshirt sophomore outfielder Jada Crittendon. Crittendon is a highly athletic player that also prioritizes academics, something head coach Jodi Hermanek has gone after this summer. Per NCAA rules, she’ll have to sit out her first season.

The team got together on Sunday for a BBQ and quickly followed that up with a little friendly competition yesterday. After being drafted into four teams by members of the staff, the players competed in games with team Jillian (Van Wagnen) and team Michelle (Huber) emerging victorious.

The Panthers announced their fall schedule, and good news for fans, all the games will be played at home!

Before the players take the field this fall, they’ll have plenty of opportunities to build chemistry off the field while giving back to the community. Pitt will be hosting camps for girls in Kindergarten through 6th grade on Wednesdays this September at Vartabedian Field.

Lastly, if you think you have what it takes to be a part of the team, open tryouts will be held at 2pm on Thursday, September 12th at Vartabedian Field. You’ll need to contact Michelle Huber, Director of Softball Operations, and return a packet of information to her by 5pm on September 9th.
