Cardiac Hill Staff makes their picks for Pitt’s opener

NCAA Football: Pittsburgh at Virginia Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Pitt Football is back! Pitt is looking to defend their Coastal crown, and is starting the year with a pretty big game facing pre-season Coastal favorite Virginia tomorrow night. Virginia is favored slightly, but you wouldn’t think that looking at our staff picks.

As always, we’ll poll the staff each week and compile the results over the course of the season.

Here is our staff picks to start:

Anson (0-0) - Pitt

JD (0-0) - Pitt

Jordan (0-0) - Pitt

Matt (0-0) - Pitt

Stephen (0-0) - Pitt

Corey (0-0) - Pitt

Mike (0-0) - Pitt

I have to admit I was very torn on my pick. Pitt’s lost a lot from last year’s team offensively on the rushing side, and losing Weaver really let some air out of the hope of the season as well. I’m concerned at how well Pitt will be able to execute with a brand new offensive scheme against a quality defense to start the year.

However, some of the components of Pitt’s defense look really promising, especially the secondary. The D-Line still has some good players on it despite losing Weaver as well. The linebackers are a bit of question mark.

Offensively, Pitt’s O line is all brand new with the exception of Morrissey, but getting him back is a big help. AJ Davis and Todd Sibley are essentially brand new backs, but Pitt’s really had great luck with running backs going on 10+ years now. If Pickett has picked his passing up, he has the receivers to help him out in Ffrench and Mack. He’ll be challenged by UVA’s Bryce Hall for sure, who’s one of the best corners in the country.

I think UVA has been slightly hyped up to where they should be, but this game will be a good measuring stick for them as well.

It’s probably mostly the optimism of a brand new season, but hell, the time before the season opener is where dreams reside. Pitt wins 24-20
