The Pitt volleyball team lost its first match of the season this weekend, falling to then No. 4 Penn State in a close battle. But their dominant win over the Nittany Lions on Friday was enough to move them up in the polls over Penn State.
Pitt (11-1) held on to its lone No. 1 vote and moved up to No. 4 overall in the polls. Currently, they sit behind No. 1 Stanford (6-2), No. 2 Baylor (9-0), and No. 3 Nebraska (8-1).
Penn State (7-2), meanwhile, dropped to fifth. Here’s the complete poll.
Pitt moving ahead of Penn State, of course, was the right move. While the two teams did split their matches, the Panthers swept the Nittany Lions while Penn State squeaked out a 3-2 win over Pitt, needing extra points in two sets to achieve that. The two teams look evenly matched but if you have to rank one ahead of the other, Pitt is the one that deserves to be ahead.
