Pitt would have been expected to win this week’s game against Delaware regardless of what happened last weekend. But after the Panthers pulled off the upset against UCF, they likely became even bigger favorites against the Blue Hens.
Currently, Pitt is a 28-point favorite over Delaware. That’s a lot of points to cover, obviously, but the Panthers’ offensive output last weekend against UCF probably helped push that number up. Before then, Pitt was having a heck of a time getting on the scoreboard.
I’m not a betting man but I am still a bit surprised at that number. Not that Pitt can’t win by that much, obviously. But historically, the Panthers have had some less than impressive point totals in some of these games against weaker foes as head coach Pat Narduzzi has really tried to simplify what the Panthers have done and limit how much they show.
Some of that can’t really be helped at this point as Pitt obviously didn’t take that approach in games against Virginia, Penn State, and UCF. After all, teams should get a pretty good idea of what to expect from the Panthers just by those games. But seeing the team win by a smaller margin shouldn’t really surprise anyone.
