Pitt vs. Louisville: Preview and Open Gamethread

NCAA Basketball: Louisville at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Pitt men’s basketball team is back in action with a game tonight against the Louisville Cardinals.

Louisville (4-1) could be the team’s stiffest challenge to date. The Cardinals were previously ranked No. 23 until an ugly 85-48 loss to No. 12 Wisconsin. Prior to that game, Louisville had won its first four contests against Evansville, Seton Hall, Prairie View A&M, and Western Kentucky.

Still, the Cardinals have proven to be a good shooting team. Led by guard Carlik Jones and his 17.3 ppg, Louisville has shot 49% from the field as a team this season. Jones is one of five players scoring in double figures, and two others, Quinn Slazinski and J.J. Traynor both are also contributing with more than seven points per game apiece.

The Panthers (5-1) will be at a bit of a disadvantage with head coach Jeff Capel testing positive for COVID. He will not be coaching the Panthers in this one.

The game is a virtual tossup at this point, which tells you a little about the respect Pitt is starting to earn. The Panthers get the game at home and it starts at 7:00 p.m. EST. You can catch it on WatchESPN. Join us here to comment live during the game.
