Here’s your overview of scores with commentary for this week’s ACC football action...
Saturday, Dec. 5th, 2020
Early Game
Western Carolina Catamounts 9 at #17 North Carolina Tar Heels 49
The Tar Heels whipped an FCS team by 40. Nothing to see here.
Next up for N. Carolina: at Miami
__________
Mid-Afternoon Games
Syracuse Orange 21 at #2 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 45
For about six and a half glorious minutes in the second quarter, the Orange actually led in this game. Then Ian Book and the rest of the Fighting Irish offense went to work, scoring 21 points in the span of just over three minutes before halftime. Notre Dame won by 24.
Next up for Syracuse: the offseason
Next up for Notre Dame: ACC Championship Game
__________
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 13 at NC State Wolfpack 23
NC State finished out their season with a win, giving the Wolfpack a somewhat satisfying eight wins on the year. The Yellow Jackets, of course, still have a date with the Pitt Panthers next Thursday night before closing out in Miami on Championship Weekend.
Next up for Georgia Tech: Pitt
Next up for NC State: bowl game?
__________
Boston College Eagles 32 at Virginia Cavaliers 43
UVA got their first win over the BC Eagles - ever. The Cavaliers can finally say they’ve beaten every team in the conference at least once. Meanwhile, BC finished their season they way it seems like they always do - with six wins (plus or minus one).
Next up for B.C.: bowl game or offseason
Next up for Virginia: at Virginia Tech
__________
Prime Time Games
#3 Clemson Tigers 45 at Virginia Tech Hokies 10
Virginia Tech fought hard in the first half and actually came within about six inches of tying the game on a Hail Mary pass just before halftime. Then the Hokies offense became a turnover machine in the second half and Clemson blew them out.
Next up for Clemson: ACC Championship Game
Next up for Virginia Tech: Virginia
__________
#10 Miami Hurricanes 40 at Duke Blue Devils 0
I’m not convinced that Miami is all the way “back”, but this is one of the most dominant performances we’ve seen from the Hurricanes since they joined the ACC. Miami still has two games remaining, both at home. Duke will finish out their season next week.
Next up for Miami: UNC
Next up for Duke: at Florida State
