Pitt-Notre Dame basketball game rescheduled

NCAA Basketball: Pittsburgh at Notre Dame Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

Positive COVID-19 tests within the Pitt program prompted the postponements of the team’s matchups with Duke and Notre Dame in December, and since then, testing issues at Florida State have delayed a third game. But on Friday, Pitt announced its contest with Notre Dame — which was originally scheduled for Jan. 2 — had been rescheduled for Jan. 30.

Pitt’s earliest postponed game, the Duke game originally slated for Dec. 29, has yet to be rescheduled. It also seems a new date for the matchup with Florida State, which has had ongoing issues, is not in the offing any time soon. With that said, the rescheduling of the Notre Dame game is a positive step for the program as it tries to cobble together a schedule as it goes in a difficult time.

Through their first eight games of the 2020-21 season, the Panthers are 6-2 overall, 2-1 in ACC play and 3-0 on the road. As things currently stand, they will next take the court next Wednesday, when they head to McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech. In that matchup, Pitt will have a chance to extend its winning streak on the road to four games — a feat last achieved by Pitt a decade ago.

Pitt's Jan. 30 matchup with Notre Dame will tip off at 8:30 p.m. ET and will air on the ACC Network. The team's upcoming game at Georgia Tech is also set for an 8:30 start and will air on the same channel.
