The Pitt men’s soccer team was set to start its spring slate with a matchup against Akron on Saturday at Ambrose Urbanic Field, but due to the possibility of inclement weather, the game has been moved to Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
The game will be Pitt’s first since the team went 7-1 in 2020 and reached the ACC championship game as the No. 1 team in the nation. Unfortunately, Pitt fell in that matchup to Clemson, the No. 2 team in the nation, 2-1, and ended the fall campaign on a low note.
As for Akron, the team did not take part in the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic and finished with a 6-10-2 record in 2019. Despite the losing record, the Zips also won the MAC regular-season championship.
The United Soccer Coaches poll was last updated on Nov. 24, 2020, with Pitt at No. 2 in the nation and Akron unranked. A poll from Top Drawer Soccer released on Monday has Pitt at No. 3 in the country and Akron at No. 6.
