Pat Signal: Marquan Pope commits to Pitt

Pitt added a defensive back to its ranks on Saturday night, as Marquan Pope, a safety out of Guyer High School in Denton, Texas, announced his commitment to the program.

“First of all, I would like to thank my family and my coaches for helping me make this decision and being very supportive throughout this whole process,” Pope said in a message posted on Twitter. “I would also like to thank God because without him I wouldn’t be in the position I am today. With that being said, I am blessed to announce my commitment to the University of Pittsburgh.”

The 6’2”, 195-pound safety has no star rating from 247Sports or Rivals, but he drew offers from the likes of Air Force, Army, Kansas, Liberty, Navy, Northern Arizona and Tulsa.

Last season at Guyer High School, Pope amassed 59 tackles, three interceptions and three pass breakups as a member of a team that went 11-3. The year before, on a 5-5 Guyer team, Pope had 37 tackles in nine games.

At Pitt, Pope will add depth to a defensive backfield that is currently moving on from the departures of Paris Ford and Damar Hamlin at the safety positions. He is the seventh member of the program's 2022 class as well as the third Texas recruit Pitt has landed since 2018.

I become concerned when.......

Pitt is competing with the likes of Tulsa, Navy, Liberty, etc. for a player.

Liberty’s a top 20 team
