UPDATE: Paul Zeise of the PG has an interesting note about Pitts possibly headed to prep school.
One thing is certain - Todd Graham either really likes secondary recruits or thinks Pitt needs a ton of them.
Maybe even both.
Pitt landed yet another recruit for the secondary - safety Jevonte Pitts out of Woodland Hills. Pitts isn't a highly-rated recruit (Rivals pegs him as a two-star and Scout has him unrated), but Pitt fans are hoping his commitment leads to a greater one - his cousin Lafayette Pitts.
Lafayette was previously a Panther commit, but later switched to Rutgers. Still, he visited Pitt this weekend and apparently hasn't completely shut the door on becoming a Panther.
Jevonte's coach seems to think that he's been overlooked:
"He was overshadowed by some of the other players," Woodland Hills coach George Novak said. "Lafayette, Quinton and Ejuan got all the recognition, but when people started looking at tapes of Jevonte, they saw what a great athlete he is."
I don't know - I guess I'm thinking what a lot of you might be in hoping that this is a package deal. I have my doubts about that, but to be honest, I don't know why Pitt would offer him. No, I've not seen him play, but he's not highly rated and neither Rivals or Scout even showed him having any other offers. And with the sudden glut in the secondary, I don't know how well he fits in.
Maybe Graham sees something we don't. Maybe he knows something we don't. Or maybe he figured he'd take a flyer on a decent athlete needing to fill spots in the hopes that it might land a bigger fish.
I'm leaning towards that third option.
