ESPN has a look at the best college basketball coaches based on a points per possession basis. The title "Best Coaches of the Past Five Years" is fairly misleading as the article is based strictly on the points per possession stat (team's PPP - opponent's PPP = total rating).
Because 30 coaches have been in their current jobs in the past five years, it's limited to those 30.
So where does Jamie Dixon rank?
Dixon comes out in a tie for fifth with several coaches including Roy Williams, Rick Pitino, Rick Barnes, and Ben Howland. The names ahead of him were Bill Self, Bo Ryan, Mike Krzyzewski, and Thad Matta (in that order), so we see that while the PPP may be a decent indicator of ranking coaches, it's by no means completely accurate since it doesn't really reward postseason success.
After all, no one outside of would say that Bo Ryan has been a better coach than Coach K over the past five years. Ryan has two Sweet 16s while Krzyzewski has two of those and something we like to call a National Championship.
Still, it's a pretty good indicator of determining the top coaches. Here's the full article.
