Pitt's James Robinson named Big East Rookie of the Week

Charles LeClaire-US PRESSWIRE

Chances are that if we said over the summer that one of Pitt's freshman would win the program's first Big East Rookie of the Week in several seasons, 99% of us would have said that honor would go to Steven Adams. But it was point guard James Robinson, who took home that award this week - not Adams.

Robinson has been even more of a pleasant surprise than most of us could have imagined. We knew he'd get his chance to play, but he's turned into one of the team's biggest contributors a few times this season.

The point guard averaged 11 points and seven rebounds in wins over Howard and Detroit last week. He also shot well (hitting 60% of his shots) and added four points and two steals over the two games, playing more than 30 minutes each time.

At this point, there's just no way you can be unimpressed with him. Robinson is not only having a very good year for a freshman, but is a pretty important part of the team.
