2012-13 preseason Top 25 basketball rankings are starting to surface with the season over and Pitt isn't faring all that well. Given the way this past season worked out, it's not a big surprise to me that Pitt is being left out - especially when the casual fans see Ashton Gibbs and Nasir Robinson are moving on.
Still, I think a lineup of Tray Woodall, Lamar Patterson, J.J. Moore, Talib Zanna, and Steven Adams won't be all that bad. Top 25 worthy? I'm not sure, but I don't think it's a big stretch to say the team won't be better if only for the fact that they're more experienced.
But that's not been convincing for some of the pundits putting together top 25 lists for next year.
In all of the rankings I checked, Pitt doesn't appear in any of them (see the list below): SB Nation, NBC Sports, Lost Lettermen, and Walter Football. And while Pitt didn't make the top 25 for Andy Katz' poll at ESPN or the Mercury News, they did at least draw an honorable mention.
Hard to fault any of these guys for not putting Pitt into their Top 25. The year was a disaster and losing their two best players doesn't help. On the surface, that doesn't look real good.
