Two of Pitt's biggest offensive recruits for 2012, Rushel Shell and J.P. Holtz, played in the Big 33 Game this past weekend. The game was televised on the NFL Network, so I caught ab it of it.

Both had decent games for Pennsylvania.

The PA squad lost yet again to Ohio, but Shell and Holtz had respectable games.

Shell had only five carries, but totaled 24 yards, averaging just under five yards a carry. He also caught three balls for another 18 yards and those three catches tied for the most by any player in the game.

Holtz had only one reception, but it was a big one - a four-yard touchdown pass to give Pennsylvania a 20-7 lead.

We all know Shell should play right away, but it will be interesting to see what head coach Paul Chryst does with Holtz. He was a highly-touted recruit, but how much playing time he gets is anybody's guess.

Also playing were defensive recruits Tyrique Jarrett, Mike Caprara, and Terrell Jackson. Unfortunately, I haven't seen a full box score showing defensive stats, so not sure how those guys fared for the most part. But Caprara did recover a fumble on the defensive side for PA.

Here's the abbreviated box.
