Head coaching rankings we've seen, but rankings of coordinators are a bit more scarce. CBS Sports, though, takes on the task, ranking the top coordinators in the Big East. The site put Pitt's coordinators in the top half of the conference. Offensive coordinator Joe Rudolph came in at fourth:
The Panthers' vaunted running attack will benefit from Rudolph's knowledge of power blocking. Rudolph was a two-time All-Big Ten offensive lineman at Wisconsin and coached NFL linemen Nick Mangold and Rob Sims at Ohio State. As the tight ends coach for the Badgers over the last four seasons, Rudolph mentored three NFL tight ends in Travis Beckum, Garrett Graham and Lance Kendricks.
Defensive coordinator Dave Huxtable also was fourth:
Huxtable will coach an inexperienced front seven that returns little beyond All-Big East lineman Aaron Donald. The veteran coordinator has instilled toughness in his defense at several schools throughout his career. In 2008, Huxtable's Central Florida defense ranked No. 3 in FBS in tackles for loss. The following season, the Knights ranked No. 6 in the nation in sacks. A year later, Huxtable's unit finished the season No. 8 in rush defense. He also served as the defensive coordinator at North Carolina from 2002-2003.
These types of rankings aren't all that scientific and trying to slot coordinators in a new conference is pretty impossible. We won't have any idea what they can do until we give them at least a season, so it's hard to take this list too seriously.
