Last week, Bryan mentioned in a basketball roundup that 2013 wing Jamel Artis had listed Pitt as his favorite. It's sounding like there should be a decision from his camp pretty soon.

And if you needed any more reason that recruiting is a wacky game, Pitt was apparently nowhere on his radar last year - even has a ton of other schools were:

Artis said he’s still waiting on his first scholarship offer, but several high- and mid-major programs have expressed interest in him, including Connecticut, Maryland, Miami, Ohio State, Richmond, Syracuse, Texas, Virginia Tech, Washington and Xavier. Artis said three of those schools are at the top of his wish list.

"I like Syracuse, Xavier and Washington," Artis said. "Syracuse, [in] their 3-2 zone, I can play at the top of the 3-2. Washington, it goes through their point guard. Everything runs through their point guard. And Xavier, I just think that would be a good fit."

Just a couple of months ago, Artis was actually still waiting on an offer from Pitt, too.

Regarding a decision, Artis said he was waiting until after the Peach Jam tournament to make a decision. The event was a few weeks ago and he, along with, ironically, recent Pitt recruit Mike Young, was named as one of the biggest surprises. In other words, it sounds like he could have a decision soon.

Artis is rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals, ESPN, and Scout.
