Pitt Players Climbing The Football Record Books

Charles LeClaire-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

After Pitt's big win on Saturday against Virginia Tech, several Pitt players are climbing the all-time record books for the school.

According to Jerry DiPaola's article in the Trib, Tino Sunseri, Mike Shanahan, and Ray Graham are all making moves up the lists.

Wide receiver Shanahan is 13th with 113 receptions, but he'll have a chance to pass a lot more guys pretty quickly. He's only 20 away from getting into the top five and being mentioned in the same breath as guys like Larry Fitzgerald and Antonio Bryant. No, he's not as good as either of those guys, but he's had a pretty strong career.

Graham just passed Kevan Barlow for ninth place in career rushing yards. And with 2,497, if he stays healthy, he could have a look at passing Curvin Richards for No. 2 all-time (3,192 yards).

And the much maligned Sunseri is currently in sixth on the all-time passing list for yardage. But he should pass John Congemi for that fifth-place spot within the next couple of games as he's only 367 yards away. Sure, part of that's due to Sunseri's longevity as he's now in his third consecutive year as the starter. But he's been Pitt's best option these last few seasons and that means he's earned those starts. Whether or not he's done enough with them is debatable, but fifth place all time is a pretty lofty mark for a quarterback who's so hated.
