2013 Pitt basketball recruit Mike Young leads St. Benedict's to HoopHall Classic win

Justin K. Aller

2013 Pitt basketball recruit Mike Young had a chance to showcase his skills on ESPNU. Not only did he play in the game, but he led his team to a win at the Spalding HoopHall Classic.

Young's St. Benedict's team won 63-51 over Montrose Christian. The forward led the way with a team-high 16 points on 5-10 shooting. He also added seven rebounds and three steals in a team-high 30 minutes.

And, oh yeah, he was a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line.

With a potential lack of depth in the frontcourt for next season, Young will be a helpful addition. As I've been over before, he'll fill a position of need for the Panthers. With the transfer of Malcolm Gilbert and the graduation of Dante Taylor, Pitt's frontcourt will be down to Steven Adams and Talib Zanna to go along with Young next year. Pitt could play Lamar Patterson and/or J.J. Moore there a bit, but Young should have a good chance to play right away - particularly if Zanna is forced to split some time at center with Adams.

Pitt will almost certainly need to bring in another recruit at center or a JUCO player to add some depth there.
