Beating the Odds: Pitt favored against Navy

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

As expected, Pitt entered the week favored against Navy in their football game this weekend. But a fairly weak performance against Old Dominion last Saturday combined with playing on the road at Navy this weekend wasn't going to make the Panthers heavy favorites.

Pitt started the week, fairly appropriately, as a five-point favorite in the game.

Truthfully, the Panthers should be favored. And personally, I expect they'll win by more than five - this just isn't a very good Navy team. That said, I can see how the line isn't all that much in their favor. Pitt themselves haven't been all that dominant this season and a win by a big margin of victory is hardly a guarantee. Another factor is that as of Monday, the time of the odds, it wasn't yet known if wide receiver Devin Street would play. If he suits up, that number could increase as we get closer to game time.
