Against the Odds: Pitt underdogs at home to Notre Dame

Kevin Liles-USA TODAY Sports

For the second week in a row, Pitt begins the week as underdogs to their opponent. This time, it's at home as odds are against the Panthers to defeat Notre Dame.

As of Sunday, Pitt was a 5.5 point underdog against the Fighting Irish per OddsShark.

That's not a huge shock, of course. Pitt enters the game with losses to Navy and Georgia Tech and at 4-4, could miss a bowl game. Meanwhile, Notre Dame just keeps winning against a bear of a schedule and is 7-2 on the season.

As I broke down in the preview, it's not an unwinnable game for the Panthers if they play well. That said, it's a bit hard to expect a win here with any great certainty.

To be honest, that line is more of a nod to how Pitt traditionally plays Notre Dame closely than it is the Panthers being as good of a football team as the Irish. If not for the Panthers' play against Notre Dame in recent memory, the odds would be higher. Pitt always gets up for Notre Dame and even in their last three losses, have kept things close. The spread is probably about right.
