I don't want to say it was overlooked because mentions of Tyler Boyd's record-setting day were all over the place, despite Pitt's disappointing loss to Miami. But the freshman wide receiver capped an excellent regular season by breaking Larry Fitzgerald's freshman record for receptions in a year.
On the day, Boyd had a team-high nine catches for 98 yards and a touchdown. That gave Boyd 77 catches in his first season, surpassing the 69 that Fitz had as a freshman. the 98 yards also just pushed him over the 1,000-yard mark as he ended the regular season with 1,001 yards.
It's been said over and over, but Boyd is a special talent. And I mentioned this elsewhere, but I was particularly pleased to see Boyd put up those numbers in Street's absence. Having Street on the field has kind of opened things up for the freshman a bit since Street is often a focal point of opposing teams. But Boyd was able to have a big day against a good team even as the primary year.
One of the few bright spots from Friday's game.
