Is this starting to sound like a broken record to you? Are you sick of Lamar Patterson winning Panther of the Week awards on this site? It sounds a little tired, but he's just playing extremely well, though.
As mentioned before in this space, Patterson was a player that frustrated me for his three previous years with reckless play and bad turnovers. I always felt like he could be much better and he is proving it this season. The senior from Lancaster came through again in the only game of the week in Pitt's 91-73 win over Youngstown State.
Patterson notched a stat line of 18 points, two rebounds, four assists, two steals, one turnover, and two personal fouls...oh yeah - and he only played 25 minutes. That's pretty much right in line with what Patterson has brought all season as he is now averaging a shade over 16 points per game and also over five assists AND rebounds per game as well. As with every game when a lesser opponent comes in, the seniors of the team must make sure a let down does not happen. The seniors and Patterson showed up on cue and made sure the Penguins went down and down hard.
Patterson's streak of winning our Panther of the Week award will end at some point ... but it won't be this week.
