Pitt vs. Penn State: Open Gamethread

Pitt gets an intriguing matchup tonight and for the second straight game, will play a rivalry game of sorts with Penn State. After defeating Duquesne in the annual City Game, the Panthers host the Nittany Lions tonight at the Pete.

There's really no reason for Pitt to be taking tonight's game lightly. While the Panthers should win, Penn State isn't expected to go down quietly. The Nittany Lions are 6-2 with losses to Ole Miss and Bucknell, but they've also got some decent wins, including one over St. John's. Their upperclassmen backcourt consisting of Tim Frazier and D.J. Newbill scores nearly 40 points a game and James Robinson/Cam Wright really need to make defense a priority.

The fan dynamic should be interesting tonight. Pitt's non-con games generally aren't all that well attended, but a game against Penn State will hopefully get a lot of people to come out. There could be a decent contingent of State fans there and a light showing by Pitt fans would help take away some of the home court advantage.
