After a bit of a resurgence a few years ago, Pitt's baseball team stumbled a bit last year finishing 28-28. From 2009 - 2011, the team had finished over .500 each year and was having a good deal of success with several players being drafted.
The Panthers aren't guaranteed to rebound this season, but they're off to a good start so far, having defeated Wichita State in their first two games of the season this weekend. They'll go for the sweep later this afternoon. Pitt won that second game yesterday 10-8 with 17 hits.
Wichita State is expected to be a pretty good team. They were ranked at No. 32 in the 2013 preseason Collegiate Baseball Top 40 poll while Pitt didn't receive any votes. If the Panthers can manage a sweep to start the season, that could change.
Pitt brought in a top 40 recruiting class this season and with the new facilities and move to the baseball-oriented ACC, the program is in good shape right now.
