Pitt has reportedly offered 2013 shooting recruiting, Jon Severe. The guard will take a visit to Oakland in the near future, according to ZagsBlog. Severe is a three-star recruit out of New York.
I'll leave the recruiting stuff in the capable hands of Jamie Dixon, but I'm a bit surprised Pitt isn't pushing more for frontcourt players. Getting a star at this stage in the game likely won't happen, but I still can't believe it's not a bigger priority right now. We've been over this quite a bit, but with Dante Taylor moving on after this season and Malcolm Gilbert's transfer, the Panthers are thin up front.
Before you kill this move, though, Severe's stock appears to be rising. He was nominated as a McDonald's All-American and his coach called him the top player in New York. Some other major-conference teams like Florida State, Alabama, and Georgia are also showing interest. Fact is, he's a very solid player and as that ZagsBlog article points out, he had 26 points and ten rebounds in his team's recent championship game.
Also, the fact is that as much as Pitt needs a frontcourt player, they also need a shooting guard as I wrote about earlier. I'd still prefer a frontcourt player, but picking up a shooting guard wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
