One Final Big East Roundtable

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

Over the years - even in my pre-SB Nation days, Norman over at Rumble in the Garden was kind enough to extend an invitation to me to participate in his Big East roundtables. Unfortunately, those days will come to an end with Pitt leaving for the ACC. But he wanted to throw out one more roundtable for this year and I was more than happy to participate.

Below were my answers to his questions. When the entire session is posted on his site, I'll link it here.

Surprise Team (Positive): Providence

Surprise Team (Negative): Cincinnati

Coach of the Year: John Thompson III

Rookie of the Year: Jakarr Sampson

All-Rookie Team: Jakarr Sampson, Ryan Arcidiacono, Omar Calhoun, D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, Steven Adams, James Robinson

Player of the Year: Otto Porter

All Big East Team: Otto Porter, Jack Cooley, Michael Carter-Williams, Russ Smith, Bryce Cotton,

Defensive Player of the Year: Otto Porter

Pitt MVP: Tray Woodall

The only two things here I wanted to comment on were the Pitt-related spots. I added James Robinson to my All-Rookie team despite his poor shooting. He still has one of the highest assist-to-turnover ratios in the nation and has also had his share of big games.

On the team MVP front, there's really no one else you could give the award to. Woodall has really had a solid year and he's on a bit of a tear offensively, scoring in double figures in nine straight games. You could consider Lamar Patterson if you were desperate enough, but he just hasn't been as consistent offensively.
