Pitt baseball prepares to take on Towson in weekend series

Peter G. Aiken-US PRESSWIRE

After a sweep over St. John's last weekend and a win over Penn State in the middle of the week, Pitt's baseball team takes on Towson at home for three games this weekend. The series will be over a bit sooner than usual with a doubleheader on Friday and the finale on Saturday.

Towson has had a decent season so far and is 13-10 on the year. But the team has been on a mini-slide, losing three of their past four games. Pitt, meanwhile, has won four in a row and a fifth straight victory would give them a season-best winning streak.

The Panthers' offense continues to click. Not only is Pitt the Big East leader in most of the major categories including home runs, RBI, batting average, total bases, runs, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage, but they fare pretty well nationally. Pitt ranks in the top 15 in the nation in several categories including home runs, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage.

Pitt's three probable starters are the usual trio of Ethan Mildren, Matt Wotherspoon, and Rhys Aldenhoven. The three are a combined 12-3 on the season.
