Pitt baseball climbing in rankings

Charles LeClaire-US PRESSWIRE

Pitt's baseball team won a game against Penn State and swept a three-game series with Towson last week. They were rewarded with another bump in the rankings. The Panthers went from No. 30 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll to 24th this week.

Even though they're getting recognition in that poll, though, Pitt is on the outside looking in when it comes to the other major polls. The Panthers received votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll (NCBWA), the NCAA poll, and the USA Today poll. Pitt also failed to get in the Baseball America poll and the Perfect Game poll.

On a side note, pitcher Ethan Mildren also made the weekly Big East honor roll after pitching a one-run complete game. Matt Wotherspoon and Stephen Vranka were named to the honor roll last week. Pitt plays a game this afternoon against Akron before heading to South Florida for a weekend series.
