Steven Adams declares for 2013 NBA Draft

In a move many people saw coming last April, though not necessarily this April, Steven Adams declared for the 2013 NBA Draft today.

The hits just keep on coming. Talk to anyone about Pitt basketball at this time last year and all the buzz was around a possible "one and done" for Steven Adams. That was before the first tip-off of the season though, things change throughout the year. Many people felt that Adams, while very talented, was still a tad too raw to jump to the next level. Well, so much for that. This press release just rolled out of the Pederson Events Center.

PITTSBURGH—University of Pittsburgh freshman center Steven Adams (Rotorua, New Zealand/Notre Dame Prep, Mass.) announced on Tuesday that he will make himself available for the 2013 NBA Draft. Adams intends to sign with an agent.

“In discussing options with my family and Coach Dixon, I feel that it is in my best interest to declare for the NBA Draft,” Adams said. “I want to thank everyone at Pitt including my teammates, coaching staff, the administration and the fans who have all supported me over the last year.”

“After talking with Steven and his family, we fully support him in this decision,” Pitt Coach Jamie Dixon said. “We support him in choosing to pursue his dreams and in having the opportunity to provide for his family back in New Zealand. We will continue to stay involved in the process and he will always be a part of the Pitt Basketball family.”

Just, wow. Did not see that one coming at all right now. Don't get me wrong, I wish all the luck in the world to Adams moving forward with what is hopefully a successful professional career. From everything I've heard he's a great guy. This though, this just hits hard. Stay tuned to Cardiac Hill for move coverage in the future, me, I'm going to have a drink.
