Pitt's baseball team had about as rough of a series as you can when they were swept by South Florida over the weekend. You could make a good case the team should have not only won a game, but won the series.
The Panthers wasted a gem by pitcher Ethan Mildren who threw a complete game in a 1-0 loss on Friday. Pitt's usually reliable offense disappeared as they were shut out for only the second time this season. Leading 6-4 in the bottom of the ninth on Saturday, the Panthers gave up three runs to lose the second straight game. The bullpen also blew the game in the finale on Sunday when leading 2-1 after the seventh inning, Pitt gave up runs in the eighth and ninth to lose yet again.
Frustrating series for sure, but Pitt was in each one. All three of Pitt's starting pitchers threw well and while the team may fall out of the rankings, they are still off to an impressive start.
