1. Duke (7-0): Easy wins over Furman and Army
2. Louisville (5-0): Allowed a combined total of 59 points in wins over Savannah State and Cleveland State
3. North Carolina (5-1): Lost to Butler but remain No. 3 with wins over ranked teams UCLA and Florida
4. Virginia (7-0): Wins over Rutgers and La Salle, but still largely untested
5. Miami (7-0): Beat Charlotte and South Alabama
6. Syracuse (5-1): Beat Loyola (MD) and Holy Cross
7. North Carolina State (6-0): Beat Richmond and Boise State
8. Pitt (4-2): Lost to No. 15 San Diego State, but crushed Kansas State
9. Notre Dame (6-1): Easy wins against Grambling and Chicago State
10. Georgia Tech (5-1): Beat Rider and Rhode Island, but lost to Marquette
11. Clemson (4-2): Beat LSU and High Point
12. Virginia Tech (4-2): Beat Miami (OH) and Morgan State, but crushed by Northern Iowa
13. Boston College (2-3): Idle
14. Florida State (3-3): Beat Charleston Southern
15. Wake Forest (4-3): Beat Nicholls State and Mount St. Mary's, but lost to Delaware State
