Pitt Football Recruiting: Damar Hamlin to announce college decision on Monday

Pitt's recruiting class is being finalized, but the Panthers still have their eye on top prize, local defensive back Damar Hamlin.

Hamlin's decision is down to Pitt, Penn State, and Ohio State and the Panthers are right in the thick of things. On Thursday night, head coach Pat Narduzzi visited him (as did some others) in a final effort to close the deal. Hamlin recently announced that he will make his official decision on Monday at 6:00 p.m., and will be making his official visit to Pitt this weekend.

Playing for Central Catholic, Hamlin is rated as a four-star recruit by Rivals and regarded as one of the best defensive backs in the nation. In addition to his three finalists, he had offers from virtually every major program - Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Auburn, Clemson, Miami, Nebraska, etc. The list goes on and on.

The Panthers obviously could use his help. Landing Jordan Whitehead last year helped to bolster the secondary as did the additional of several other defensive backs in the 2015 and (projected) 2016 classes - but that's just a start. For Pitt to seriously compete for ACC championships, more talent is needed.

It can be argued that Pitt's class is already a good one. But an addition of Hamlin probably vaults them into some Top 25 lists.
