Pitt’s wrestling program signed four of its five committed wrestlers for the 2018-19 season. On Monday, Louis Newell, Cole Matthews, Luke Kemerer, and David Crawford signed with the team. Also committed to the team, but unsigned, is Jack Davis. Here’s Pitt’s rundown of the four wrestlers that have signed.
The class has the makings of a solid one. Matthews, Kemerer, and Davis are all Top 75 guys in the nation. The two that are not, Newell and Crawford, are decorated as well. Crawford is a state champion and Newell has twice been a state runner-up.
The 145-pound Matthews looks like the gem of the group. He was ranked as high as the Top 40 on FloWrestling’s Class of 2018 Big Board and has also been a state champion. InterMat has him as the No. 4 overall wrestler in his weight class.
Class rankings aren’t out yet but Pitt had the No. 13 class last year according to this site and that was with three Top 75 guys as well. In addition to the two extra guys not ranked that high, Pitt also has transfer Micky Phillippi joining the fold next year so the team is adding quite a bit of talent next year.
