(Don’t) Bet the Farm: Pitt vs Virginia Tech

After a big win against Georgia Tech two weeks ago, Pitt had a bye week to get healthy before their second conference matchup tomorrow in Virginia Tech.

While some schools like North Carolina have already played 5(!) ACC games, Pitt and Virginia Tech have only played one game each. Despite that, this game may very well be what ends up deciding the Coastal. If Pitt is able to win, they could lose an ACC game to anyone except Miami at this point and be winners of the Coastal. Miami, having only played one ACC game like Pitt and Virginia Tech, could mathematically still win the Coastal.

There are a ton of questions around Virginia Tech’s quarterback situation as starter Braxton Burmeister came out late in their game against Notre Dame last week with a throwing arm injury. In addition to being their leading passer, he also is their leading rusher with His ability to play with likely determine Virginia Tech’s ability to score points which hasn’t been great even with him in.

Virginia Tech’s defense is a different story. They have a stout defense allowing only 18.6 PPG which is a bit better than Pitt’s at 22.6. They give up a few more yards than Pitt does, however, at 341 YPG compared to Pitt’s 338.4.

For the second time, the staff was not unanimous this week in our picks. Personally, I’m riding with Kenny Pickett until I see something on Pitt’s offense I don’t like.

Who do you got?
