Former Pitt defensive lineman Dewayne Hendrix signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League on Friday. The move will see Hendrix join his fourth team and fourth league since the start of 2020.

The 6’4”, 270-pound lineman last played in the Spring League for the Alphas, and before that, he had brief stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers of the NFL and with the St. Louis BattleHawks of the XFL. Hendrix’s stop in St. Louis was his most productive, as he accrued four tackles, including one sack and one tackle for a loss, and one quarterback hurry in five games.

Hendrix transferred to Pitt in 2015 after beginning his college career at Tennessee. He played in 25 games between 2016 and 2018, missing most of the 2016 season with a foot injury. Hendrix would finish his Pitt career with 50 tackles, including 10 for losses and 7.5 sacks, as well as two fumble recoveries.

In Toronto, Hendrix will get a chance to play at a level similar to that of the XFL, where he earned a starting role and thrived in the short-lived league. But with that said, he will face some stiff competition, as the Argonauts loaded up on defensive talent, adding CFL veterans Odell Willis and Fabion Foote to the defensive line as well as linebacker Jordan Moore, who has played in the CFL and NFL.

Hendrix will join several other Pitt alums in the CFL, including wide receiver Rafael Araujo-Lopes and linebacker Nicholas Grigsby of the Ottawa Redblacks, defensive end James Folston of the Edmonton Football Team, linebacker Seun Idowu of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and offensive lineman Nolan Ulizio of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
