Regardless of what you think of Dick Vitale (and I, personally, don't mind him), the man's a college basketball icon of sorts. Stumbled upon this piece on ESPN and he essentially tries to calm the masses about Pitt basketball.
The season's been a bust, no doubt, but there's truth when he says Pitt has had several close losses and lost a ton of talent in the offseason. The Panthers have lost four games by 13 points and even winning two of those games would have gone a long way to assuaging fears.
The one thing I'll say, though, is that I don't know if I'd say (and Vitale doesn't say this) that the team doesn't know how to close out games. They obviously need to do a much better job of it, but they've also won some close games themselves beating La Salle by four, Tennessee by five, and Oklahoma State by six.
Pitt will rebound from this ... here's to hoping it's next season.
