Pitt just missed out on Top 25 rankings again

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

The AP and USA Today basketball polls were released today and Pitt again just missed out on the Top 25 rankings. But while the team had two blowout wins last week, they actually slid in one of the polls.

Pitt moved up a couple of spots to No. 26 in the AP poll where they were rewarded for their wins. But they dropped a spot to 27th in the USA Today poll as they were passed up by Wichita State. Pitt actually lost a total of 15 points, meaning a few voters likely bumped them down despite the big victories. The USA Today (coaches) poll is also a bit off in my mind as Kentucky, who has three losses, is somehow still ranked.

This type of stuff doesn't matter all that much - particularly at this point in the season. But with only one loss (and that coming narrowly at the hands of No. 3 Michigan, no less), I'm not quite sure how one would surmise that Pitt isn't one of the top 25 teams in the nation. Either way, though, the Panthers will get respect if they simply keep winning.
