The annual preseason watch lists are trickling out and Pitt's Ryan Turnley has already found himself on one for the Rimington Award given to the top center in college football.
To be fair, the chances of Turnley winning the award might not be all that high with other programs sure to get more recognition than Pitt. But the fact that Turnley is even being considered is a big deal in its own right. After all, it was just last season that the great center debate at Pitt was happening. There was even talk of possibly moving one of Pitt's best lineman to the position because of the lack of options. Yes, that was under Todd Graham's confusing campaign, but you get the point.
Turnley stepped up fairly late in the game and not only played well, but well enough to get noticed for consideration for the award this season.
Unless Sunseri stops taking so many sacks, Turnley will have a hard time gaining any respect. But he could get a bit of recognition if Ray Graham piles up yardage like he did in the first half of last season.
Here's the full preseason watch list for the Rimington Award.
