After Pitt's loss to Notre Dame last week, it was expected that they would fall in the latest rankings released on Monday. The Panthers slid from No. to 20 to No. 23 in the AP poll, but fell out of the USA Today Coaches poll.
For what it's worth, Pitt came in at No. 26, just missing the cut in the latter poll. Still, I expected the road win at St. John's would be enough to keep them in.
Either way, though, Pitt's right there. The Panthers have three more games over the next two weeks and all are very winnable. If the team can make a clean sweep of things, they could approach the top 15 as teams with more difficult opponents ranked ahead of them will surely lose.
On an unrelated note, it's a little disappointing to see a team like Akron ranked ahead of Pitt. The Zips are 22-4, but don't have any true standout wins. They also lost to Detroit - a team that Pitt handled. But, whatever.
