2013 Pitt recruiting target Jon Severe to cut list

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Taking a little break from the madness that is the Rushel Shell situation for a little basketball recruiting news.

Pitt 2013 recruiting target Jon Severe has been in the news quite a bit. That's mostly due to some huge scoring games he's had recently in the New York State Federation tournament (Severe set a two-game record with 68 points) in the event.

But there's also the fact that he hasn't yet decided where he'll be playing this fall. Severe, though, could be making up his mind soon as he recently said he is planning to trim his list of possible schools soon. Severe has gone from someone who might be a nice player to one whose stock is improving drastically.

Severe was named Mr. Basketball for the state of New York recently, but that doesn't mean he's getting all the recognition he deserves. He and his coach were none too pleased that Kentan Facey was named as the Gatorade Player of the Year for New York:

For Severe and his coach, Joe Arbitello, it was mission accomplished in their quest to prove Severe was the top player in the state, just a day after the pair found out that Long Island Lutheran’s Kentan Facey was named Gatorade Player of the Year for New York.

Severe knows how good Facey is, so it didn’t bother him when he first heard the news. But Arbitello told Severe he was better.

"So then after that – I never get mad, but I just got mad," Severe said. "In the Catholic league, I don’t have to score 40 because I have a team around me."

He has been on Pitt's radar for a little while now and with all the talk we've had about Pitt needing a scoring guard, he would be a welcome addition.
