Pitt left out of the NCAA baseball tournament

The Pitt baseball team did not do enough to make the NCAA tournament.

Despite a school record 42 wins, the Pitt baseball team did not do enough to make the NCAA tournament. The noon ESPNU selection show never made mention of the Panthers, as it appears they were further down the list of bubble teams than most realized. Some predicted four bids for the Big East, but only Louisville and Connecticut were able to lock down bids.

Pitt had a huge weekend series at Louisville last week, with the conference regular season title on the line. The Panthers failed to earn a key victory that would have helped their tournament resume. Pitt only went 2-2 this week in the conference tournament, with both losses coming to another bubble team, Notre Dame.

Pitt also only had an RPI of 65, and with a 64 team tournament, that seemed to be a bit low. Still, the Panthers had a successful and exciting season. Pitt was able to find itself near the top of the Big East standings throughout the year, and even were in the national rankings toward the end of the year. This season was big for the program, and should help them better prepare for the tougher schedule that lies ahead in the ACC next season.
