Patrick Amara picks the Panthers

Pitt lands an athlete from Philadelphia.

USA TODAY Sports

Pitt's recruiting surge in the past week continued earlier today as Patrick Amara committed to the Panthers. Amara is listed as an athlete by both Rivals and ESPN, but Scout labels him as a receiver. Amara is listed at 6-2 and roughly 180 pounds. He chose Pitt over offers from Bowling Green, UL Lafayette, and Central Florida. Amara is from West Catholic High School in Philadelphia, the same school that produced incoming freshman, Jaryd Jones-Smith.

Amara appears to be a good sized athlete that can go either safety or wide receiver. His junior year highlights show some promising plays on defense, where I feel he will ultimately play. West Catholic is a good school to have contacts with, and it is already paying dividends.

Amara does not have a ton of big offers, but still has physical tools to play division one. Most of the recruiting class, with the exception of the two offensive linemen, are lower rated players so far. Many of Pitt's top targets are still undecided, and Pitt is very much in play with all of them. If it comes as any comfort, Wisconsin never landed top flight players when Chryst and company were there. Either way, the recruiting of late has seemed to lifted the fan base for the time being. Welcome, Patrick.
