Pitt Basketball Recruiting: Rozelle Nix commits to Pitt

Pitt picked up a "big" junior college center tonight

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

Rozelle Nix committed to Pitt tonight after visiting the school this weekend. Nix is a massive 6'11" 345 pound center from the Junior College ranks in Florida.  Nix had reported offers from South Carolina and Loyola Marymount according to his Rivals page. He will have two years of eligibility for the Panthers, and figures to work his way into the race for playing time with some other junior college big men Jamie Dixon has turned to recently, Joe Uchebo and Tyrone Haughton.

Nix is Pitt's second commitment for the 2015 recruiting class as he joins point guard Damon Wilson. With Derrick Randall and Cam Wright graduating, only two spots are available for this recruiting class so this would seemingly make it seem Pitt is done with the class of 2015. But I wouldn't count on that just yet.

In recent years, Dixon has been actively recruiting and shuffling the roster well after signing day, and that could be the case again this year.  Pitt is in the mix for highly rated big men, Cheick Diallo and Caleb Swanigan, along with guard Davon Dilliard. The big men, in particular, seem like "can't miss" prospects and Pitt will certainly find room for them on next year's roster in the event they win those recruiting battles.

Either way, with Randall graduating Pitt certainly needed to add a big man to take his spot. Nix is a player that has come on of late, and rumors are that he has cut a lot of weight to play closer to 300 pounds.  As I mentioned earlier, Dixon has been looking to the Junior College ranks lately, but has yet to have it pay off for him. Perhaps Nix is finally the one to make an impact.
