2014 Biletnikoff Award Preseason Watch List: Pitt wideout Tyler Boyd makes the cut

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

The award watch lists continue to run and Pitt wide receiver Tyler Boyd is on another one. This time, Boyd was named to the Biletnikoff watch list - the award is given to the top receiver in college football.

Boyd was one of only five sophomores on the list. Pitt, of course, has some great history with the award as both Larry Fitzgerald and Antonio Bryant both won it in the past. The Panthers are one of only four schools (others are Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Oregon State) to have more than one Biletnikoff trophy.

It's pretty obvious that Boyd should have been on the list as he's one of the best wideouts in the conference and was one of the top freshmen receivers in the nation last year. Unlike the Maxwell or the Hornung (he received preseason consideration for both) where Boyd will have a difficult shot to win, the Pitt receiver should have more of a shot to be in contention for this one.

Boyd's 1,170 yards ranked 20th in the nation last year and many of the players ahead of him have graduated or gone to the pros. Nine of the top ten receivers in terms of yardage last year are all gone, so Boyd has a more realistic shot at the award.
