Pitt Football Recruiting: Alex Hornibrook transferring to Wisconsin

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Tonight, Pitt's quarterback situation for next year just got a little thinner:

The former Pitt recruit isn't wasting any time, apparently. He's already been in Wisconsin and will move in tomorrow.

Hornibrook was previously committed to Pitt under Paul Chryst. As I wrote at the time, he was a solid get, but didn't have many significant offers. Still, this is a bit of a hit to a program looking for depth at quarterback. Even if you don't believe that he was the quarterback of the future, the fact is that you need several guys to be able to compete. Hornibrook gave the team some depth under center at a time they could use some.

You hear about kids signing on for the coach and not necessarily the school a lot of the time. This is certainly one of those times with Hornibrook. He was an in-state kid, and while he said he felt like Pitt was a good fit, he also referenced the coaches back when he committed:

"I loved everything about Pitt, from the campus to the coaches," Hornibrook said. "It feels like home and I couldn't be more excited to be a Pitt Panther."

This isn't a catastrophic loss for Pitt. While it certainly hurts depth at the position for the future, he almost certainly wasn't going to be seeing the field this year.

Looks like Pat Narduzzi has another scholarship to play with.
