Clemson travels to Pitt today for a noon tip at The Pete. The Tigers are 11-8 and 1-6 in the ACC Conference. They have lost six games in a row. They are favored over the Panthers by 2 1⁄2 points today. I’ll give you a few minutes to let that sink in...got it? No? OK...a few more moments. Got it? I don’t care. I have to finish this article at some point, so I’m moving on with it. Apparently Vegas was scared away by that little 55 point loss, at home, to Louisville.
The Panthers come in at 12-8 and the same 1-6 ACC record. They have lost five games in a row and six of the last seven. So, because the rules say so, someone has to win today and break a losing streak. Pitt fans are anxious to see the players actually care, but Clemson fans are also getting restless. Head coach Brad Brownell made the NCAA Tournament in his first season in 2010-2011. He has not made it since.
The Tigers do have Jaron Blossomgame, who averages 18 points per game and has hit for 20+ in five of Clemson’s last six games. Pitt will have to contain him. The Panthers own head coach Kevin Stallings has shown all kinds of frustration and been pretty candid about it. Will it finally sink in for the players? Will The Zoo show up for the blackout at The Pete? Will I sink deeper into my depression over the state of Pitt hoops? All questions will be answered this afternoon.
